The name increased in popularity in modern times with the introduction of a character named Aiden, who popularized this new spelling too, in Sex in the City. Aidan of Lindisfarne was a 7th-century monk who made the name Aiden increasingly popular among his society. Aodhan, in reality, however, was a high kind of ancient Ireland. The name Aiden specifically was made from Aodhan for its first origin, who was a Celtic angel who received its name from Aodh, a Celtic god. Tickets to view the 7 pm webcast on March 10, 2021, are $25, $50 and $100.The origin of the baby name Aiden is based on Celtic and Gaelic traditions out of Ireland. Morristown Onstage is presented by the nonprofit Morris Educational Foundation. “It’s been really fun getting to put my music ideas down on paper and to get to understand music better,” Orbeta says. If he wins the $1,000 jury prize, or the $500 audience choice award, he plans to invest in recording gear, to further his growing interest in music production. I’d say I felt more comfortable performing just in front of my parents and the camera, compared to what I imagine I would feel performing solo to a live audience,” says Orbeta, who enjoys rap and metal in addition to jazz. So he decided to make the best of this year’s virtual contest, aiming for something special. He says he was urged to audition for Morristown Onstage after being nominated as the Mayo Center’s Music Student of the Month. Orbeta auditioned with the bassoon for the North Jersey Area Band, and got first chair. “I was chosen to learn and play the bassoon for my 6th grade band, and it was a good challenge!” he says. He added saxophone lessons, taught himself guitar, and picked up bassoon by chance. The 14-year-old finalist became interested in music as a 1st grader, and started playing clarinet in his 4th grade band. There might have been real panic if Orbeta had stuck with his original choice: Sir Duke. And choir instructor Gillian Erlenborn will sing Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke with an all-teacher ensemble called Panic at the Mayo. The school’s choir has recorded Come Alive from The Greatest Showman.

įrelinghuysen Middle School will be well represented at Morristown Onstage. The event packed the 1,300-seat Mayo Performing Arts Center last year, and has raised more than $1 million since its inception for the Morris School District. Now in its 14th year, the contest is open to amateur performers who live, work or study in Morristown, Morris Township or Morris Plains, and to alumni of Morristown High School. “I think it’s a really cool song and I could do cool stuff with it,” he explains.įourteen finalists, chosen from 55 acts that submitted audition videos, will compete for prize money via videos that will be webcast at 7 pm on March 10, 2021. Orbeta has performed, produced an edited himself performing the Stevie Wonder classic Isn’t She Lovely. “My favorite thing about performing music, particularly playing with a band, is having different instruments all come together.”

I also got creative in putting together the video of my performance,” says the 8th grader. “Pre-recording our acts gave us a chance to improve and revise as needed. Orbeta’s one-kid band is a miracle of video, a necessity for a show that has gone all-virtual in a pandemic. The Frelinghuysen Middle School student will perform on saxophone, guitar, clarinet and drums for Morristown Onstage this Wednesday. Playing just one instrument doesn’t do the trick for Aidan Orbeta.
